Who said radio DJs can only do radio? Well, that’s not the case for Bongino. Dan Bongino is a right-wing political talk show host with Westwood One who is on President Donald Trump’s list to possibly be the new head of the Secret Service.
Let’s dive into this podcaster’s background. Before he had his own radio show, Bongino was a NYC police officer for 4 years in the 90s.
In ’99, he joined the United States Secret Service as a special agent. He left in 2002 to become Secret Service Training Academy instructor. However, 4 years later he’d be assigned to the Presidential Protection Division during President Bush’s presidency. In 2011 Bongino ran for the US Senate.
Not only is he heavily involved in security, he’s also a novelist. In 2013 Bongino published his memoir, Life Inside the Bubble, which detailed his time in the Secret Service.
Even though it seems he was loyal to the Secret Service, he was ridiculed by former workmates stating he used his S.S. time to advance his political career. They were concerned Bongino was “hijacking the Secret Service brand.”
Bongino went on to write a couple more books: The Fight: A Secret Service Agent’s Inside Account of Security Failings and the Political Machine, and Exonerated: the Failed Takedown of President Donald Trump.
Bongino got into radio after guesting on the Sean Hannity and Mark Levin shows, he’s filled in on WMAL-FM talk radio in D.C., and WBAL in Baltimore. He’s appeared on Hannity’s Fox News Show. He’s an advocate of Spygate which was a theory stating there’s illegal spying on President Trump’s 2016 campaign. He even wrote a book about it : Spygate: The Attempted Sabotage of Donald J Trump.
Dan Bongino started his podcast in his basement. In 2021, Cumulus Media signed Bongino to replace The Rush Limbaugh Show, in his time slot. Cumulus was already airing his podcast so this move made sense. In May of 2021, Fox News signed him to host a weekend program called Unfiltered with Dan Bongino. However, two years later he left Fox, and extended his contract with Westwood One.
Now, podcaster and radio host Dan Bongino could be the head of the Secret Service.
