At only 24 years old, Lola Young is unapologetically herself, which makes her music that much more powerful. You may have heard her song, Messy, on Tik Tok, but there’s a full lifetime of experience in this young package.

Lola was born Lola Emily Mary Young in 2001 to a Jamaican-Chinese father and English mother in London, England. At only 6 years old, Lola started playing piano and guitar, then took singing lessons. All this prompted her love for writing. She later went to BRIT in Croydon, which is a British performing arts school.

When Lola was 15 years old, she won the Open Mic UK singing competition with her song “Never Enough.”  This jump-started her becoming vastly known in the music world. After graduating from BRIT, Lola was discovered by Amy Winehouse’s former manager Nick Shymanksy, and then Nick Hugget who signed Adele. These two became her management team.

By 2019, Lola was signed to Island Records, releasing her debut single, “6 Feet Under.” Once again, as we’ve seen too often with emerging artists, Covid came into play. This era did send challenges her way, however, Lola pushed through and released another single titled, “Woman.” Jumping over to the states, Lola performed her version of “Together in Electric Dreams” on The Late Late Show with James Corden. After the release of her debut album, “Stream of Consciousness,” Lola embarked on her first European tour in late 2022. The next year she would let loose her album My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely.

Most recently, her second album This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway dropped in June of last year. This is where we were introduced to her single, “Messy,” and the Tik Tok genre grabbed onto it and hasn’t let go. Tyler, the Creator got wind of Young’s talent and had her collaborate on his album Chromakopia.

As of now, Lola Young is touring and has dates set in the UK, US, Belgium, Germany, Denmark….Lola’s definitely taking hold of her newfound popularity and making sure she’s making the most of it.
