Shoegaze is going to be the sound of the summer, especially with how many new grunge bands are coming out. Today, we take a look at Scarlett House, fronted by Kameron Odums. In fact, he not only fronts the band, he IS the band.
Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Kameron takes his life experiences and creates a moody, almost ethereal sound. At only 27 he has produced all his music from the comfort of his own living room. There isn’t a lot of information out there, but I did see a blip he’s battled cancer and homelessness. That being said, he’s clearly lived a life full of events he can use to create his incredibly open lyrics.
Late last year, Kameron did an AMA on Reddit, which gave more information than any bio I’ve found. Here’s what we learned:
- He’s partial to Fender Mustangs when he plays
- Top 5 fave bands are Balance and Composure, Nirvana, The Cure, The Neighborhood, Nothing.
- When he first started writing music, he actually wanted to write a movie, but didn’t know how to write a script so he wrote songs instead.
- He does all his own production using a MacBook, Focusrite interface, KRK Speakers, Beats Headphones, and jazz master.
- Biggest inspirations are Frank Ocean and Nirvana.
Hopefully, he continues doing what he’s doing because his sound is entrancing, and clearly, I’m not the only one feeling his music. On Spotify, the song Ghost has 13.6 million listens, Slowing Down 13.7 million, and Search over 9 million listens.
