Podcasts have become mainstream and it’s important to understand the impact podcasting can have on your on-air shows. If you haven’t started adding in weekly podcasts, you need to now. Moreso, due to video podcasting becoming the norm recently.

We’ve talked numbers when it comes to podcasts before. But what does it mean for you, your show, and sales? First, your show. If you haven’t started implementing podcasts weekly, you can start small with the “Best Of” we’ve discussed in previous articles. Take bits of your show throughout the week and create a podcast to air Saturday mornings. You can also create a completely new podcast on a completely new topic (ie Weird Science, Pop Culture… something you and your partner can discuss freely.)

NOW, you need to think about adding video. Video has become extremely popular on YouTube, Tik Tok, and even Facebook and Instagram Reels. In fact, Netflix recently announced they are thinking about adding a video podcast element for their viewers. Netflix already has audio podcasts but the CEO recently noted video podcasts are gaining a huge following and they want to make sure they are in on the trend.

Back to how this can help your shows…Most stations have a media room. You can utilize this space for a weekly 20 minute sit-down. Use it when you have artists in town…when you interview them, do it with your video podcast. Use it for your weekly podcast about whatever topic you and your co-host have come up with. Listeners LOVE to actually SEE you in your element. When someone can watch you talking and being yourself, it makes them feel like they know you. This can turn into a devoted listener.

How does this help sales? All of it can be sponsored! The video podcast, the podcast on the website, the podcast on YouTube, the audio podcast, these can all be monetized. Also, don’t forget you can interview clients on the video podcast. Don’t abuse this aspect, this should be kept for major events like a new store opening and not a sale on deli meat.

It can seem overwhelming, but once you dive into the world of video podcasting, it opens up so many doors and options to keep creating incredible content. Great content equals great ratings.
