We’re already in March which means if you want to execute a huge Mother’s Day giveaway, now’s the time to start planning and talking to sales! Mother’s Day is May 11th which gives you about two months to finalize the giveaway and start promoting.
Moms aren’t just about relaxation and pampering. Sure, that’s great for a few! However, there are a lot of stations AND companies doing a similar giveaway. Let’s think outside the box.
One great idea is a She Shed! We tend to hear a lot about guys’ Man Caves. She Sheds were all the rage for a few years and then kind of fell off. You can go to any Costco or Sam’s Club and see shed bars and the like. We can turn a shed into a great serenity place for a mom! Get some ideas from listeners on what they’d want in their She Shed. Have a poll set up on social media. This is an opportunity for listener engagement. You can have a section on your website for listener input. Get your local handy man store involved as a sponsor for the poll on the website. Sales can enlist anyone who would be willing to donate items: Lighting, furniture. Think about items to get for the shed…kindle for books, comfy pillows…This doesn’t have to be an elaborate Pinterest She Shed either, so if you’re reading this thinking “our budget would never….” It doesn’t have to be crazy. Simply a place with a nice chair or loveseat, lighting, plants, kindle…it can be simple but nice.
Something that’s worked well is having daughters write in about their mothers and sharing a picture. This is huge for website traffic. What mom doesn’t love having a child sing their praise? The picture and story will be posted on the station website. The story with the most “likes” wins! The prize pack can be whatever your sales team can gather. But make sure they know you aren’t accepting meal deals and movie tickets. We are talking about jewelry, massages, flowers, manicures and pedicures, GC for a nice dinner, maybe a hotel stay…The Mother of all Gift Baskets!
You can celebrate Mom all month long! Every Friday in the month of May take calls from actual moms and ask what their most memorable mom moment has been so far. It can be heart-warming or funny…whatever they want to share. Pick a winner by the end of the show and they’ll get a GC! Again, we aren’t doing movie passes and water park passes for this. Make it make sense. Flowers, dinner, massage… this is in conjunction with the Mother’s Day promotion you’re holding. You can flip this for Father’s Day as well but we’ll get to that in another article.
As always, poll your listeners! Ask the moms in your listening area what they REALLY want for Mother’s Day and plan around that! “This Mother’s Day, what are you really wishing for?” It’s important to find out what they are looking forward to instead of guessing. Let them take the thought process out of it.
