You have your Valentine’s Day (OR ANTI Valentine’s Day promotions) Set! Now, it’s time to turn over to St. Patrick’s Day promotions! If your city is anything like my city, this day is HUGE! A giant parade to kick things off, which you HAVE TO be a part of, then you should have remotes lined up at various spots! However, there can be an on-air promotion as well!
*In years past, we’ve done the parade which was followed by a bar crawl of remotes. We were set up the entire day at bars! We ended the day around 7. If the parade ends at 11, plan on being at the first spot at 11! Someone will have to bail out of the parade early or have someone NOT in the parade to start the bar crawl. Two hours at each remote. Obviously, you’ll need to alternate staff. This is a huge opportunity to be seen and get in the public. Get in people’s pics! Try to be everywhere! You know those phones will be out all day so make it a priority to be seen in those pics. Bring props with you so they’ll WANT you to be in the pics! It would be hard to do giveaways with the attention span of listeners that day, but you could have specific St. Patrick’s Day station shirts made to giveaway at each spot! This one is a no brainer and pretty easy to execute.
*Have a scavenger hunt for the pot of gold! Start it March 1st. The “medallions” will be hidden somewhere in the city. As far as how many clues and when they’re given, that’s up to you. You can do one clue every morning and reiterate it in the afternoons. That would be 16 clues so not too many and pretty simple to come up with. If you have a big concert coming up, your prize could be front row tickets and meet and greets!
*You can never go wrong with money! “Luck of the (insert radio station: KISS)” They win the amount of your call numbers in hundreds; so if it’s 98.5, they win $985. Ask for their unluckiest or luckiest moments. The funnier, the better. Try not to go with sob stories. That may sound unpleasant, but we’re trying to keep this contest upbeat. Have this as a website entry and read the top 5 on the air. Announce the winner on St. Patty’s Day!
You have plenty of time to get this sold but you’d want to start now to make sure you get your foot in the door before other stations in town get there.
